Hello everyone
I called this pattern easy but worthy backpack, cause it’s beginner friendly but you need to keep focus and prepare some snack and drink because this bag is only made with single crochet (sc), and also this pattern is divided only into 3 part which is bag’s body (work in circular), flap, and 2 straps. If you keep missing one or two or even three sc in a row, doesn’t matter, this bag still stay in the shape, cause we’re human right, we keep making mistakes to learn and grow.
Good news is this pattern is free! Yes, you read it right, no money spend. Why? Cause I am absolutely sure everyone could and/or already make this kind of bag. That’s why I only titled this with EASY PEASY BACKPACK. This free pattern include detailed illustrations about your point of view while making the bag, but if you feel something isn’t right, just contact me :).
ABBREVIATIONS
sc : single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
MATERIAL :
· 2 cone of nylon yarn in Hay color
· Lighter (to cut the yarn)
· Yarn needle
· Markers
· 2 - 4 different color of ribbon or scrap yarn
· Tassel
· Hook 3.5 mm,
· 2 D Ring and 2 strap adjusters.
Let’s crochet together, first step is making bottom of the bag a.k.a our base, then body of the bag, flap, then straps. This pattern works best in even number + 1 ch.
STEPS
Bottom of the Bag
- First, make a slip knot, ch 37. Skip one ch from hook and start sc from 2nd ch, keep making sc until 35th ch. In 36th ch, make 3 sc, put marker in first and last sc in same space because these stitches will be our increase, in this part your chain base will slightly round, then sc in bottom of your chain, so you crochet in circular. In last chain, make 2 sc then sl st to the first sc.
- Row 2 - 15 : 2 sc in same stitch (put marker in the last st), then make sc until pre-marked stitch. In the marked st, make 2 sc (put marker in the first st), make 3 sc in next stitch (marked the second st), then 2 sc in next st (put marker in the last st), then sc until you reach the last pre-marked st. Then make 2 sc in the marked st (put marker in last st), after that, make 3 sc and sl st.
Body of the Bag
In this section, we will only sc like the last of bottom of the bag (no increase). It’s okay if you missed some st, but make sure to make increase to fill some missing, no need accuracy to alternate the missing stitch(es). I make 50 row for the body, you can make taller or shorter, but before I finish this section, I make additional row for the ribbon. Don’t worry if you’re sl st not in straight line, because it will be covered with straps. In this row you’ll have 158 st if you not skip any st
- Decide which side will be your center of the bag and then mark the stitch. From the marking, make 11 sc, then skip 2 st, sc 20x, skip 2 st, sc 15x, skip 2 st, sc 15x, skip 2, st, sc 20x, skip 2 st, sc 20x, skip 2st, sc 15x, skip 2 st, sc 15x, skip 2 st, sc 11x then sl st.Row 2 - 5 : sc in in every st.
- Cut 1,5 m ribbon or yarrn, I used 2 different color which is blue and white. Leave about 10 cm before tie off the top then start braiding and leave about 10 cm from the tail then tie off.
- Make tassel, insert the tail of the braided ribbon from the top of tassel then glued or sewed the tail so it attach with tassel.
BODY OF THE BAG HAS DONE. Now let’s move to flap.
Flap also start from top to bottom
- First, make a magic ring, sc 5x, ch, then turn.
- Row 2 : sc 2x in first and last st, sc in 2nd and 4th st, sc 3x in 3rd st (marked the 2nd sc), ch, then turn. See ilustration for more detail.
- Row 3 - 8 : sc 2x in first and last st, sc in until pre-marked st, sc 3x in marked st (marked the 2nd sc), ch, then turn. Ilustration 5. Flap. Black = first row. Red = second row
- Row 9 - 15: sc in every st except in marked st, sc 3x in marked st.
FLAP HAS DONE. Now let’s attach it to the first additional row of the bag. You can use yarn needle or flat slip stitch.
Straps
For straps, ch 121 or more (adjustable), skip one chain, and sc in 2nd chain until end of ch, turn. Keep doing this until you meet width of your D ring and Strap adjuster. After your straps fit the measurement of D ring and strap adjuster, attach one of the tip of your strap, right under the flap, sew with yarn needle. Attach D ring using yarn needle with ordinary sew technique, insert strap adjuster into your strap (skip the middle barrier), set according to your need, then insert the tip of strap into D ring, put back the tip into strap adjuster, wrap the divider then sew the tip of the strap.
YOUR BAG JUST FINISHED! YEAY, CONGRATULATIONS!
